Updating this dated and drab end table to a modern and stylish piece is not as hard as it may seem!
1. Prep: Remove hardware. Clean then lightly sand away any clear shiny coat your piece a have. If your piece has some scratches and dents, continue sanding till smooth. For deep scratches, use a wood filler putty to repair. Once dry, sand putty smooth and level, cleaning off any dust from sanding.
2. Prime: My preference for primer, and what I have used for this piece, is a metallic spray paint. It has a high adhesion property that stick well to most any surfaces and other paint will stick to it. The metallic paint can also be used to highlight and enhance intricate detail of the piece. You can also use the spray paint to update the original hardware.
3. Paint: once primer is dry, simply start painting. I am using a chalk paint and applied 2 coats.
After second coat was applied, I used a small angled sponge to wipe away the chalk paint in the small grooves around the embossed designs of the piece to reveal the silver metallic paint I primed with.
4. Seal: Once chalk paint is completely dry, choose a sealer and protectant ,using your favorite type of sealer. As I have done here, use an "antiquing" wax to add just a little more detail and pizzaz to the final look. I apply the antiquing wax after the clear wax. Once the antiquing is dry, I clear the wax one last time.
Reattach hardware.
5. Admire your amazing work of furniture art!
Now go out and find it a friend!
Till next time!
